Mahanatam is an ode to an era when the celestial dances of HARA (Shiva a.k.a. Nataraja) and PARVATI the artificer duo of the Universe mesmerized the sagacious connoisseurs. He is the creator of the majestic Tandavam (masculine dance) and lyrical Lasyam (feminine dance) that are an integral part of all creatures of the universe.
The music for this production is apostrophic and descriptive. The dancers depict the creation of Lasya and Tandava and its infusion into the creatures. They conclude with an intricate rhythmic piece that defines five rhythmic sub-divisions (jaatis) that sprang from the feet of Lord Shiva, giving an electrifying climax to 'Mahanatam'.
Premiere: 2011 at Shreyasi International Dance Festival Choreography & Concept by: Drs. Raja Radha Reddy Artistic Director: Kaushalya Reddy Music Composer: D. Srinivas Review: The curtain raiser was a sparkling Mahanatam (The Majestic Dancer), eulogizing Shiva, also known as the cosmic dancer whose rhythmic feet animate the universe from within. Taking full advantage of the ensemble of dancers – seven female and one male – the choreography flowered at two levels: Shiva – and – Parvati on a lofty platform and the bevy of youthful disciples traipsing down below. Together, they made myriad patterns at a varying pace highlighting duality in its many manifestations and ending in pairs of fauna – squirrels, parrots, deer and mammoth elephants. - By UK Banerjee ← Back
India is a country full of diversity where people belonging to different regions, castes, communities share their rich cultural heritage with the spirit of oneness. Classical dances of India like Kuchipudi from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Mohiniattam from Kerala, Odissi from Orissa, Manipuri from Manipur, Bharatnatyam from Tamil Nadu and Kathak from North India have their own distinct style taking from the culture and flavor of the particular region.
Bearing in mind the shloka “Ekam Samaradhanam”, Raja and Radha Reddy have conceived a unique presentation called Natya Laya Vibhati, which is an amalgamation of the 6 major dance forms of India. Each of these classical dances have a rhythm and music of their own. They show the individual virtuosity of their respective dance forms. Finally they join together and present their individual dances at one pace to show the unity in diversity of our nation.
Premiere: 1999, performed for Bar Association Choreography & Concept by: Drs. Raja Radha Reddy Artistic Director: Kaushalya Reddy Music Composer: Pt. Durga Prasad & Vijaya Bhaskar Review: The Idea was to show that the origin of all dance forms is one – as written by bharatmuni in the Natyashastra more than 3000 years ago. But as it travelled to different regions it imbibed regional flavors. So, we have gone back in time to recount what the rishi-munis had said about the rhythmic variations of dance. - By Asmita Aggarwal ← Back
Bharath is an incredible country: Dynamic, Vibrant and Colorful. A mosaic of faiths, cultures, customs and languages that form a composite whole. It contributes to the world the divine art of dance and music, for which it is known as 'Prachisudha'- the nectar of the east.
To thou who forced the attention of entire globe towards peace, non – violence and truth To thou who extended comfort and solace to the multitudes To thou who stretched from Kanyakumari to the snow clad ranges of Himalayas To thou secular, who respected all religions, beliefs and taken them to fold
Depicting through dance the entire conceptual being of Bharat Mata (our motherland); this is the essence of the enchanting Bharata Bharathi.
